I agree that there’s nothing wrong with trial-error-learn. But there seems to be a great deal of ‘trial-error-error-error-continuing error-don’t learn’ around.
You also write:
“On the one hand, none of our lives really matter in the grand scheme of the universe. We’re born and die and our entire lives do not really affect anything.”
But as something of a philosopher myself, I would say that there are ways to decide what ‘matters,’ other than by considering what the effects of our lives are, going forward in time.
