I don’t think I used the word ‘primitive’ in a negative sense, but I understand, of course, that it is sometimes used in a negative or even derogatory way.

In a recent article, I wrote: “Imagine a primitive society where each individual is self-sufficient and provides for their own individual needs entirely by themselves.”

I suppose I could have written: “Imagine an elemental society where each individual is self-sufficient and provides for their own individual needs entirely by themselves.” — but I’m not convinced that would have conveyed my meaning quite as well. But sometimes it might work, so I shall bear it in mind. :)
