It should be possible for someone to be inspired by top sportspeople, regardless of whether those top sportspeople are of the same sex/race/gender as themselves.
A potential footballer, for example, should be able to be inspired by Messi's skills, regardless of whether Messi's sex, race or gender matches their own.
If they find themselves unable to be inspired, simply because Messi's sex, race or gender does not match their own, then I suggest they should look to addressing their own prejudices.
And the rest of us should not pander to such prejudices.
Personally, I'm inspired by the silky tennis skills of Hsieh Su-wei. The fact that neither her sex, her gender or her race match mine is of no importance to me. And I would happily watch her play, no matter what division she was in.
