I was actually thinking more in terms of people who already own their house. If the value of their property increases, they’re being incentivised to at least consider selling up and moving — thus potentially making room for someone else who might have a more pressing reason for living in that particular area.

I quite acknowledge, of course, that higher house prices will cause problems for lots of people — so I’m not celebrating price rises. But that’s how the market system operates; prices change to reflect demand and supply.
