In many ways, Basic Income helps people become LESS dependent on the state. It undermines the poverty trap created by the reduction or removal of welfare as people earn more. It also improves the negotiating position of employees when negotiating with their private sector employers.

Thus, UBI could easily result in far FEWER people being entirely dependent on the state for their essential income.
