Yes, I think it would be very helpful if there was far greater transparency about how Medium operates as a business.

As to whether it is ethical to feed people what they want to read, I think that too comes down to how open you are about that.

If a platform openly says that their aim is to feed people what they want, that may be OK. But Medium has repeatedly claimed to have much loftier aims than that.

They also said they were curating solely on the basis of "quality." It may be ethical to curate on other grounds, provided that you are open and honest about it. And I don't think Medium has been as upfront about their curation processes as they should have been.

But changes are afoot - and let's hope they are for the better!
